Responsibilities of the Design Review Board

• Issues Certificates of Appropriateness in connection with building permit requests for multifamily, institutional and commercial structures that involve external architectural features
• Adopts design criteria for the review of external architectural features.
• Formulates plans or guidelines improving the appearances of external architectural features consults property owners or occupants to achieve voluntary improvements.
• Recommends to the Village Council or Village Manager appropriate measures to improve the appearance of public buildings and properties.
• Reports violations of Village ordinances affecting the appearance of the Village and makes recommendations as to the enforcement thereof;
• Comments to the Zoning Board of Appeals, Plan Commission and Village Council regarding Certificates of Appropriateness for Special Use Permit requests.
• Considers Certificates of Appropriateness for multifamily, institutional and commercial signs.

• Considers administrative appeals of any sign code decision or interpretation.
