Each section of the Department takes part in community relations. Activities include involvement in community events such as the Winnetka Children’s Fair; annual bicycle rodeo; and Chamber of Commerce functions, as well as tours of the Police Station for school groups, Scout troops, and other youth organizations. Members of the Operations Section are available to speak to schools, community groups and special functions. The Department offers college student internships on a limited basis.

To be successful, the Winnetka Police Department reaffirms its view that one of the basic and continuing responsibilities of every member of the agency is to strengthen citizens' confidence in and respect for their Police Department.
