Renewal forms for senior citizen property tax exemptions are being mailed this week; however, those who just turned 65 in 2014 will not receive a form.  Applications are available in the New Trier Township Office at 739 Elm Street in Winnetka and online at www.cookcountyassessor.com.

The exemption is available to seniors age 65 who were born in 1949 or before, and who are owner-occupants of residential property, regardless of income.  A senior freeze exemption provides additional savings if the combined income of the entire household is less than $55,000 and the senior has been an owner-occupant of the property since January 1, 2013.

The exemption applies to 2014 property taxes, which are paid in calendar year 2015.  The savings will appear on the second installment tax bills (due in August).  For assistance, please call the New Trier Township Assessor’s office at 847-446-8200.
