Application Processs for Firemedics and Police Officers
The Board of Police and Fire Commissioners (BFPC) appoints all entry-level firemedics, police officers and lateral entry police officers. The entry-level selection process begins with a competitive testing program. Typically, testing for entry-level firefighters and police officers is conducted every two years. Positions are filled by candidates who are on an elibility list and pass all selection requirements. The Village of Winnetka recently conducted entry-level testing for Police and Fire and will not be conducting testing again until the summer of 2018.
As vacancies occur within the Department the Police may wish to accept applications for lateral entry Police Officer. Lateral entry applicants must be certified by the State of Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a full time law enforcement officer, have prior law enforcement work experience within 3 years of application and meet the same minimum requirements as entry-level applicants.
