Gas Main Replacement at Tower Road & Greenwood Avenue

May 15, 2015 03:46 PM

A new section of gas main at the intersection of Tower Road and Greenwood Avenue was not properly JULIE marked and the contractor “scratched” the top of the pipe on Friday, May 15.  There are no life safety issues at this time, and there is no leaking of gas; nevertheless, North Shore Gas must replace this section of the new gas main.  In the meantime. they will install a repair sleeve over the scratched piece of pipe.  Because of the size of the main, special parts are being ordered and the work cannot be completed until Monday May 18.  As a result, the west side of this intersection will be completely closed to the motoring public.

North shore gas and the contractor are working together to make sure that the intersection is safe and secure for the weekend.  North shore gas has indicated that they have lowered the pressure in the main for increased safety measures; however, this will not affect service to any of the residents. Their crews will return early Monday morning to repair the gas main, after which normal traffic patterns will be re-established.

To ensure that motorists have access to their homes west of this intersection, traffic will be able to travel west of Pine Tree Lane to access Forest Way Drive during this closure.  If you have any additional question please contact James Bernahl at 847-302-8731.
