Recycling containers are available for purchase at Village Hall, 510 Green Bay Road. All containers must be out at curbside and ready for collection by 7:00 AM on the scheduled pickup day. Please do not place recycling containers at the curb until dusk the evening prior to your collection day. Containers must be oriented so the lid opens on the street side with the hadle on the house side. Residents are not charged for recyclables. Recyclables may be commingled in one cart. Paper products should not be bundled or tied. Containers should be rinsed.
Recycling is provided free of charge to any Winnetka business that uses the Village’s refuse services.
Please see below for a list of recyclable and non-recyclable items.

As part of the regular collection of residential refuse, the Village will empty two 37-gallon garbage cans of trash from each single-family household (at the back door, if available) once per week. To ensure efficient collection of refuse please follow the guidelines below:
Refuse- Special Pickups
For large objects or quantities not practical for regular refuse pickup, a special pickup may be requested. Special pickups are billed by volume and must consist of general household items that are small and light enough to be handled by two persons without danger of injury. Major appliances and large heavy furnishings may also be collected, but a special handling charge will be assessed to cover costs and disposal. Special pickup cost are $30 for the first cubic yard of material and $11 for each additonal cubic yard. Call 847-716-3568, two to three working days before the desired collection date to schedule a special pickup, or email: email@example.com.
Refuse- Yard Waste
UPDATE: Beginning January 1, 2017, the Village discontinued the sale of Village-provided yard waste bags. Residents are required to purchase yard waste bags from local home improvement stores for clippings and other similar landscaping refuse, and affix a Village yard waste sticker on the bag. Stickers can be purchased at Village Hall, Grand Foods and Lakeside Foods for $2.20 each. Bags will continue to be picked up curbside on your designated yard waste pick-up day. Other yard waste, such as brush and branches, must be bundled in rope (not wire) and each bundle must have a sticker affixed. For large accumulations of hedge trimmings, brush, or light tree trimmings, a special yard waste pickup may be requested. For more information or any questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 847-716-3568.
Illinois law prohibits disposing of yard waste (lawn clippings, brush, branches, etc.) with regular household refuse. The Village provides curbside collection of yard waste throughout the year; however, additional collection procedures and charges apply to this type of refuse.
Accumulations for curbside collection must be ready for pick up by 7 AM on the scheduled day. Yard waste is collected year round on your regular collection day. From April through November, however, yard waste is collected twice per week: on both Monday and Thursday from residents who have either Monday or Thursday garbage collection and on both Tuesday and Friday from residents who have either Tuesday or Friday garbage collection.
Wine corks may be recycled at Good Grapes, 821 Chestnut Court in Winnetka or at Wildfire Restaurant, 1300 Patriot Boulevard in Glenview.
