Redirect the Built Environment – Encourage and facilitate construction of high performance (green) buildings and infrastructure
This objective, together with that for the preservation of the forest canopy and green & open space encompass the visible environment that contributes to Winnetka’s village-like ambiance. This page focuses on the built environment and the “Land” pages addresses the natural. Guidance on design and construction of high performance buildings (Green Buildings) is that provided by LEED (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design) Building (B) and Neighborhood Development (ND).
Resident should consider the following when planning remodeling or new construction;
In 2010, the WEFC-proposed Dollars in your Dumpster Program was enacted into ordinance, which established requirements for construction and demolition debris recycling. Under the ordinance, at least 75% of the construction and demolition debris gathered during most types of construction activity within the Village must be recycled.
