Winnetka’s Document Destruction Event will be held Saturday, May 5 from 9:00 AM to Noon at the Public Works Yards, 1390 Willow Road. The goal of the program is to assist residents with recycling out-dated or sensitive documents. As a continuing program, the Solid Agency of Northern Cook Country (SWANCC) is providing a one-day document destruction event for residentially-generated paper.

ADS Environmental Services has been hired to perform leak detection services on the Village’s water system to identify and reduce unnecessary water loss. Technicians will survey approximately 72 miles of water mains and 4,500 water services to locate undetected water leaks.

The Landmark Preservation Commission (LPC) and the Winnetka Historical Society are once again offering a trolley tour of Winnetka landmarks. The free tours still have seats left on the 3:00 PM tour on Saturday, May 12. The tour will depart from Village Hall, 510 Green Bay Road. Reservations are required. The Winnetka Police Department is again partnering with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration to participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The day of the event is Saturday, April 28 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. A disposal box will be set-up in the lobby of the Police Department, 410 Green Bay Road.

For the 25th year, the Forestry Division is proud to announce that Winnetka has been named a 2017 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, for our commitment to effective urban forest management. Tree City USA communities are recognized for meeting four requirements set by the Arbor Foundation that reflect a strong commitment to maintaining the urban tree-scape.
