First West Nile Virus Positive Mosquitoes Found in Winnetka

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD) has announced that a batch of mosquitoes, collected on July 17 from a NSMAD trap in Winnetka, tested positive for West Nile virus. This year, WNV positive batches of mosquitoes have also been found in NSMAD traps located in Evanston, Glenview, Kenilworth, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles, Northbrook, Northfield and Skokie.


Hubbard Woods Platform Repairs

On Monday, July 17, rehabilitation work began on the south half of the Hubbard Woods outbound platform; the stairway access will be out of service for repairs. Commuters are asked to use the outbound stairway on Scott Avenue to access the in-service portion of the platform. New Utility Bill Design

The Village's utility bills have an updated design to provide better billing information and transparency about the charges for utility services. It includes contrasting colors, larger type, cleaner-looking consumption graphs, and a larger message center for disseminating important community information.​


Water Department Performing Hydrant Painting

The Village of Winnetka maintains over 625 fire hydrants. Part of this maintenance includes painting and sandblasting approximately every four years, to enhance their appearance and improve visibility of faded and weathered hydrants. In July and August, approximately 165 hydrants will be painted in the following areas: (i) north of Elm Street, west of Green Bay Road, and east of Forest Way Drive; and (ii) hydrants in the Woodley Road subdivision.


Dispose of Unused Prescription Medications and Sharps at Fire Department

The Winnetka Fire Department participates in the Residential Prescription Drug & Sharps Disposal Program. Home prescription medications and used insulin syringes may be dropped off at the Fire Department Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. Please note that the Fire Department cannot accept narcotics.
