Phosphorus Fertilizer Prohibition

Phosphorus is an essential nutrient for healthy plant growth; however, it is already present in sufficient levels in local soils. The application of excess phosphorus degrades water quality by causing excessive growth of algae and other aquatic plants, depleting dissolved oxygen and reducing biodiversity. The Village Council adopted an Ordinance in March banning the use of phosphorus fertilizers in Winnetka.

Village Proposes Rehabilitation of Cherry and Oak Street Bridges

The Village is proposing to rehabilitate Cherry and Oak Street Bridges over the Union Pacific Railroad. The project will consist of repairs to the bridges and adjacent pavement and sidewalk. During construction, each bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and Metra access from the Oak Street Bridge will be temporarily closed.


Hydrant Flushing in Winnetka

The Village has begun flow testing hydrants in Winnetka. Work began in the far northwest corner of the Village near Scott Avenue and Forest Way Drive, and is progressing south and east throughout the summer. Signs will be placed in the areas to be tested.


Hubbard Woods Platform Repairs

Work at the Hubbard Woods Train Station continued this week with platform surface rehabilitation and phase work located adjacent to the Green Bay Trail. Union Pacific has requested access to the Green Bay Trail from the Winnetka Park District and the Village of Glencoe. Those with questions, please call Noe Gallardo at 312-322-6487.
