2014 Village Citizen Survey Reveals Quality of Life in Winnetka is High

January 9, 2015 11:26 AM

The results of last summer’s first citizen survey have been tabulated by the Village’s survey partner, National Research Center, Inc. (NRC).  Surveys were mailed to every Winnetka household, and the Village achieved a 45%  response rate.  The results emphasize that Winnetka residents enjoy a high quality of life.  More than 9 in 10 respondents rated Winnetka as an excellent or good place to live and raise children.  Notable assets include:  a general feeling of safety; ease of getting around; the natural environment; education and enrichment opportunities; and the overall image/reputation of Winnetka.  Importantly, 91% felt the Village’s core services are performed at a level of excellent or good.

Responses to questions about priorities for Village action indicate that most residents support concentration on stormwater management and economic development in the business districts, as well as possible changes to refuse collection.  Residents also expressed a preference for more food and dining options when opportunities for redevelopment arise in the business districts.

NRC made a presentation of the complete survey results report at the January 13 Study Session; to view a webcast of the meeting, click here.  To view the results report online, click here.  Residents with questions about the survey may contact Megan Pierce in the Manager’s Office at 847-716-3543.
