Public Works Electronics Recycling
In coordination with The Solid Waste Agency of North Cook County (“SWANCC”), the Village’s electronics drop off recycling program that is hosted at the Public Works Yards (1390 Willow Road, Winnetka, IL 60093) will resume beginning on Thursday, July 9, 2020. This program takes place on Thursdays from 1 - 3 PM. The electronics recycling program is free to residents of SWANCC communities and IDs will be checked for proof of residency. Residents are able to drop off up to seven items and the electronics dropped off must be from households (electronics from schools, businesses, and institutions will not be accepted). Residents must wear masks and stay in their vehicles when dropping off electronics.
The following items are accepted for electronics recycling:
- Cable Receivers
- Cell Phones
- Computer cable
- Computer monitors
- Computers (Desktops, Notebooks, Tablets)
- Converter Boxes
- Fax Machines
- MP3 Players
- Portable Digital Assistants (PDAs)
- Printers (Multi-function Printers)
- Satellite Receivers
- Televisions (All Types)
- Video Game Consoles
- Video Recorders/Players
- Zip Drives
Small household appliances, such as toasters, blenders, coffee makers, and lamps can be thrown away in the garbage if they cannot be donated for reuse. Microwaves can be left out on garbage day or taken to a scrap metal company for recovery. Some electronics may be taken to retailers such as ABT Electronics in Glenview, Goodwill, or Best Buy for recycling. Please call first to confirm that your items will be accepted.
Public Works Lobby Recycling
The drop off recycling programs in the Public Works Lobby (1390 Willow Road, Winnetka, IL 60093) for styrofoam, CFL bulbs, holiday lights, and small hand-sized electronics will resume on Monday, July 6, 2020. Residents are able to drop off materials Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4 PM.
