On Tuesday, August 4, Village Council voted to approve contracting Strand Associates for engineering design services for stormwater management-related improvements associated with the Stormwater Management Wetlands Project, which will enable the Village to obtain necessary permits to proceed with bidding and building stormwater management solutions. The current timeline for engineering design would allow for construction to begin in winter 2021 or spring 2022.
Strand Associates previously prepared a stormwater management study to develop a strategy for managing stormwater within the Village, which determined that the most effective and viable plan involved partnering with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County to create the Stormwater Management Wetlands Project.
Village Council will receive updates through the engineering and permitting process. Watch future Council Agendas to find out when stormwater management will be discussed.
Stormwater Funding from the State of Illinois
State Representative Robyn Gabel, working on behalf of the Village of Winnetka, secured $16 million for Winnetka’s Stormwater improvements and $12 million for a regional project for the Cook County Forest Preserve site where Winnetka’s stormwater project is planned, totaling $28 million in support of our stormwater project. These funds were included in the Build Illinois Bond Act that was signed into law by Governor Pritzker.
Village President Chris Rintz noted that Rep. Gabel has been a "pleasure to work with" and we thank her for her efforts on behalf of the Village.
