Broaden your perspective on important international issues, from the economy to climate change, by participating in all or any of the 8 weekly Great Decisions discussions. A briefing book published by the non-partisan Foreign Policy Association provides a short informative article on each topic followed by suggested discussion questions. It is available for loan at the Winnetka or Northfield Library, or for purchase (to write in the margins and save) for $30 from the LWV-WNK Great Decisions chair, Joan Fragen - joanfragen@gmail.com or 847-446-0184; call for more information. This series is led by participants who volunteer to lead one session. Everyone reads the weekly topic in the briefing book as well as any other sources they may find and a stimulating and informative discussion always results! The Great Decisions series is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Winnetka-Northfield-Kenilworth in cooperation with the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District. Weekly topic: Iran at a Crossroads By the fall of 2022, Iran was in a state of turmoil due to widespread protests against government-enforced wearing of the hijab, a failing economy, an ineffective new president, and the looming succession of the country’s leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. Abroad, renewal of the Iran nuclear deal seemed doubtful and tensions remain high between Iran, Israel, and Arab states. Many Iranians have lost hope of a better future, and the country seems at a crossroads. How should the United States deal with it? By Lawrence Potter.
