Construction Alert for Winnetka Avenue

September 22, 2015 02:33 PM

The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways has begun Phase II construction on Winnetka Avenue between Hibbard Road and the Edens Expressway.

Starting on Wednesday, October 7, the County expects to start their pavement work along the Winnetka corridor between Hibbard and the Edens. This work will take place between the hours of 7 AM and 6 PM and at times the roadway will be reduced to one lane. Construction flaggers will be in place to ensure the safe movement of traffic. Major delays are anticipated and motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow for additional time, or to take an alternative route.

Throughout construction, the County and their contractor will work to minimize disruptions.  Winnetka Avenue will remain open to two-way traffic at all times, but during certain operations, as outlined above, the road will narrow to one lane with flagging operations in place.  During flagging operation days, major delays are anticipated.  The public will be provided with advance notice of all flagging operation days through onsite message boards and special construction alerts.  Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow for additional time, or take an alternate route.

Please note that the actual start dates and activities may change due to weather or other conflicts. With favorable weather, construction is scheduled to be completed by early November.
