Cook County Forest Preserves

January 8, 2016 04:25 PM

The Cook County Forest Preserve District (CCFPD) would like to keep residents informed of the year-round activities and events it offers, most of which are free. There are a wide variety of outdoor activities and events to learn about and explore nature, as well as volunteer opportunities to preserve our natural resources.

As one of the most densely populated areas of the nation, Cook County is lucky to be surrounded by nearly 70,000 acres of managed Forest Preserve lands which are as diverse as the communities they serve. Our goal is to connect more individuals and families to this amazing resource with your help.

The CCFPD Winter Brochure offers a variety of activities like snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, winter camping and free events hosted at its six Nature Centers.

The Forest Preserves of Cook County is one of the oldest forest preserve systems in the nation, maintaining nearly 70,000 acres of open land for the education, pleasure and recreation of the public. We strive to protect and restore the county’s diverse ecosystems, so all our unique native plants and animals can live and thrive.
