Composting

In April 2019, Village Council tasked staff with exploring options for implementing a Village-wide composting program for residents. Three preferred vendors were selected. Each vendor has their own pricing structure and service levels, as well as porch/backdoor pick-up services. Vendors also provide their own five-gallon buckets and lids to residents.

If residents choose to work with a composting vendor, customer service and billing are separate from Village refuse collection services. Each vendor offers the ability to sign up via their website and make payments online.

The three preferred vendors are:

Collective Resource: An Evanston-based, woman-owned food scrap hauling company that services Hubbard Woods School. Residential compost is taken to a commercial compost site. Pick-up schedules vary. Learn more.

Compost Club by The Urban Canopy:  Biweekly pickups are available and composted material is used at local, urban farms to create healthy soil. For every 10 pickups, members are rewarded with finished compost, a $5 voucher to a local farmers’ market or a $5 voucher to one of the restaurants that compost with Compost Club. Learn more.

WasteNot: Chicago's first and only zero-emissions compost collection service. WasteNot provides members with the easiest and cleanest way to go green by making their collections with 100% electric vans. They offer weekly service, including a clean bucket swap and the option to receive "finished" compost on scheduled distribution days. Learn more.
