Public Safety Application Process

The Board of Police and Fire Commissioners (BFPC) appoints all entry-level firemedics, police officers, and lateral entry police officers. The entry-level selection process begins with a competitive testing program. Typically, testing for entry-level firefighters and police officers is conducted every two years. Positions are filled by candidates who are on an eligibility list and pass all selection requirements.

As vacancies occur within the Police Department, the Village may wish to accept applications for lateral entry Police Officer. Lateral entry applicants must be certified by the State of Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a full time law enforcement officer, have prior law enforcement work experience within 3 years of application and meet the same minimum requirements as entry-level applicants.

Inquiries about the BFPC hiring process should be directed to Lizzy Storkman in Human Resources (847-716-3506).
