Metra to Close Elm Street Station Ticket Office on February 22

February 8, 2019 02:00 PM

Due to declining on-site ticket sales at the Elm Street Metra Station, Union Pacific Railroad will close the station’s ticket office at the end of business on Friday, February 22.  Although the ticket office is closing, passengers will continue to have access to the station facilities.  After February 22, passengers boarding at Elm Street can use cash to purchase a one-way ticket from a conductor at no extra cost.

Ticket sales have declined at many Metra stations, as passengers have switched to mobile purchasing.  About 43% of Metra customers now purchase tickets via the Ventra app.  Tickets may be purchased at any time at no extra cost through the free Ventra app.  Tickets will still be sold by agents in Highland Park, Wilmette, Evanston at Davis or Central, and all five downtown stations – where there are also ticket vending machines available.
