Village of Winnetka
The annual Landmark Preservation Awards honor construction projects in Winnetka that help preserve its history and character. The program has three award categories: Restoration, Rehabilitation, and New Construction. The properties do not have to be landmarks - the winners, determined by the Landmark Preservation Commission, are properties that exemplify the historic character, architectural distinctiveness, and design aesthetic of Winnetka.
The Village of Winnetka is pleased to announce the kick-off of a community-wide planning process to create an updated comprehensive plan. “The Winnetka Futures 2040 Plan” will be an official roadmap informing Village decisions over the next 20 years on issues including land use, economic development, natural resources, transportation, housing, and sustainability.
Beginning in mid-March, households across the country will begin receiving official Census Bureau mail with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone, or by mail. The Village encourages all residents to participate in the Census as the official census count provides the basis for reapportioning congressional seats, redistricting, and distributing federal and state funds to local communities.
Starting March 2, early voting and grace period voter registration will take place at Wilmette’s Centennial Ice Rink at 2300 Old Glenview Road on weekdays and Saturdays from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM; and on Sundays from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
Winnetka’s Annual Spring Clean-Up week will be held April 27 through April 30. Scheduled pickups are: Monday, April 27: north of Tower Road; Tuesday, April 28: Tower Road to Pine Street; Wednesday, April 29: Pine Street to Willow Road; Thursday, April 30: south of Willow Road. Items should be placed on residential parkways the evening before the scheduled pickup, or by 7:00 AM the day of the pickup, in order to minimize littering problems.
