Proposed Dog Park Community Engagement Meetings

The Winnetka Park District Board of Commissioners had a request from a citizens group to explore an off-leash dog park and at the January 10, 2019 Committee of the Whole meeting, the Park Board instructed staff to begin exploration of the possibility. This included:

  • Site visits to local dog parks
  • Developing criteria to determine potential sites
  • Creating basic level of required amenities for potential dog park
  • Determining estimated development costs
  • Considering maintenance and operational plans
  • Developing basic site renderings

Since January and their last Board meeting on May 16, 2019, the Park Board has taken a closer look at the staff’s due diligence and have narrowed the scope of consideration down to Crow Island Woods and West Elm Park.

The WPD website has a page dedicated to proposed dog park information. The next step is neighborhood stakeholder and community engagement meetings. The goals of these meetings include:

  • Providing context on site determination
  • Reviewing conceptual plans
  • Encouraging neighborhood stakeholders and community feedback and ideas
