Residents to Reap Rewards from Joint Recycling Contract

January 15, 2016 02:54 PM

In an effort to save costs on recycling collection, the Villages of Winnetka and Glencoe have been working to co-select a vendor to provide this service for their residents.  Both Villages are serviced by the same law firm, provide their garbage collection in-house, and had the same recycling provider.  These circumstances allowed the two Villages to issue a joint request-for-proposal (RFP) with the aim of achieving economies of scale.

The winning bidder, Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) of Morton Grove, was the most competitive vendor.  LRS has provided waste and/or recycling collection services to the Chicago Public Schools, City of Chicago, and Villages of Bannockburn, Skokie, Deerfield, Highland Park and Riverwoods.

The new recycling contract will collectively save approximately $566,000 over the life of the five year agreement.  The collaboration also saved the Villages administrative and legal fees, estimated at around $20,000.  Lakeshore Recycling Systems will begin work in Winnetka in February, and residents should expect to see mailings and other informational material distributed in the coming weeks.
