Two Residential Burglaries Reported Monday, January 19

January 20, 2015 03:51 PM

The Winnetka Police Department is investigating two residential burglaries that occurred on Monday, January 19,during the late afternoon hours.  Both incidents occurred on the west side of the Village; entry was forced through first floor doors.  Items taken included jewelry and cash.  Fortunately, one of the homes was equipped with an alarm system that was activated and the amount of property loss was limited due to the immediate police response.

Communicate with your neighbors and watch out for each other, especially if you know your neighbors are away.  Do not leave newspapers or packages outside, always keep doors locked, and use the alarm system if so equipped. Secure valuables in a bank safe deposit box, and do not keep large amounts of cash in your home.

In the past, burglars have posed as contractors or workmen and parked their vehicles nearby.  Report any suspicious activity/persons/vehicles to the Winnetka Police Department immediately by calling 911 – please do not wait until the next day to call.

The Police Department recommends you view their Crime Prevention Video.
