Village Performing Geotechnical Investigations in Connection With Willow Road Stormwater Tunnel and Area Drainage Improvements

August 29, 2014 02:55 PM

Beginning after Labor Day, the Village’s Tunnel Engineer, MWH, and its subcontractor, Testing Service Corporation (TSC), will perform geotechnical investigations in Winnetka in support of the Willow Road Stormwater Tunnel and Area Drainage Improvements Project.  These investigations are required to gather information on subsurface conditions that can impact the design and construction of the proposed storm sewer improvements.

A total of 16 borings are currently planned over the next few weeks.  Click here to see an exhibit showing the general locations of the planned borings.  TSC will mobilize a drill rig to each site to conduct the investigations.  The drill rig will be used to bore a hole approximately 4-inches in diameter to obtain samples of subsurface material for testing.  The depths of the borings will vary from 35 to 75 feet.
All soil boring activities will be performed in the public right-of-way, and no access to private property will be required.  TSC is responsible for managing their materials during the investigations and for the restoration of each of the boring sites.

If you have questions regarding the planned investigations, please contact Steve Saunders at 847-716-3534 or Joe Johnson (MWH) at 312-623-6851.
