Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED Training
Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. Over 350,000 people will suffer from sudden cardiac arrest this year. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere, and at any age. An AED is the only effective treatment for restoring a regular heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest and is an easy to operate tool for someone with no medical background. Time is of the essence in emergencies. The average response time for first responders once 911 is called is 4 to 6 minutes. For each minute defibrillation is delayed, the chance of survival is reduced by approximately 10%. Early administration of CPR and AED to cardiac arrest victims increases their chances of survival.
The Winnetka Fire Department conducts CPR/AED certification and recertification classes monthly. Classes may also be scheduled for special groups such as doctor/dentist personnel, school faculty, or other organizations.
Certification is through the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver CPR AED instructional program and covers CPR for infants through adults. The cost for class is $25 per person, or $50 for class and a certification card. The registration fee must be paid prior to the class date. Payment can be processed by cash, check, or credit card at Village Hall (510 Green Bay Road) during normal business hours.
Classes begin at 8 AM, run for approximately 2 hours, and will be held at the fire station, which is located at:
428 Green Bay Road
Winnetka, IL 60093
