Rooftop Solar Project at the Yards

Solar energy is growing in Winnetka. For the past few years, Public Works has had a small 10kW rooftop solar array that was initially installed as a demonstration. Now the Village is contracting with RPG Energy to add 250kW of solar capacity over two Public Works buildings at 1390 Willow Road.

Once installed, the system is expected to generate over 330,000 kWh per year, which is over 90% of the site’s annual electricity consumption. This electricity will be clean and locally-generated, decreasing the Village’s dependence on the grid and fossil fuels.

A combination of federal tax credits and selling the project’s Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) will help to lower the overall project costs.
